Welcome Message
The Department of Physiotherapy at Chrisland University, domiciled within the College of Basic Medical Sciences, proudly stands as a pioneer in Sub-Saharan Africa. Chrisland University is the first institution in Nigeria to establish the Doctor of Physiotherapy (DPT) programme and the first to secure full accreditation from both the National Universities Commission (NUC) and the Medical Rehabilitation Therapists Board (MRTB) of Nigeria. We are honored to lead this transformative journey in physiotherapy education and practice.

The Doctor of Physiotherapy Programme

Approved by the University Senate in 2017, the DPT programme admitted its first cohort in October 2019.

The inaugural graduating class, known as The Genesis Set, completed their studies in August 2025. Eleven students graduated, with five earning distinctions.

The programme continues to attract strong enrolment, offering students modern lecture halls, clinical training, and access to cutting-edge physiotherapy equipment.

Philosophy

Our philosophy is built on five core beliefs:

  1. Physiotherapists are vital in restoring function and addressing evolving health needs, including prevention and health promotion.
  2. The DPT programme fosters lifelong learning and professional growth.
  3. Teaching and learning thrive through collaboration, creativity, and continuous assessment.
  4. Effective learning extends beyond classrooms into community and service-oriented activities.
  5. Physiotherapy practice must be grounded in current best evidence.

Objectives

We aim to:

  1. Produce graduates of noble character and sound ethical judgment.
  2. Equip students with deep theoretical knowledge and advanced clinical skills.
  3. Train physiotherapists to excel in diverse settings: hospitals, rehabilitation centers, sports and fitness facilities, industrial workplaces, and community health environments.
  4. Develop graduates as innovators, job creators, and leaders in healthcare delivery.

Vision

Our vision is to be a world‑class centre of excellence in physiotherapy education, research, and clinical practice. We aspire to set the benchmark in Africa and beyond by fostering innovation, advancing evidence‑based care, and cultivating an environment where motivated staff and empowered students collaborate to transform health outcomes and enrich quality of life globally.

Mission Statement

Our mission is to cultivate highly skilled, culturally responsive, and ethically grounded physiotherapists who excel as clinicians, educators, researchers, and administrators. This will be achieved through the dedication of well‑motivated staff and a supportive, conducive learning environment that fosters innovation, lifelong learning, and professional growth. We empower our graduates to pursue advanced specialization and academic excellence, thereby enhancing health outcomes and improving quality of life across diverse populations.
