Student-Innovators Take Center Stage at Chrisland University's Sustainability Project 3.0

The event, which took place at the University Auditorium, attracted a diverse audience, including industry leaders, investors, and aspiring entrepreneurs.

The Sustainability Project is an annual event organized by the Centre for Entrepreneurship and Leadership Development Studies (CELDS) together with the Directorate of General Studies (GST) Unit of the University, to provide a platform for students to present their entrepreneurial ventures to the public.

This year’s edition featured an array of different student-led startups, covering a wide range of sectors including technology, agriculture, fashion, and healthcare.

The fair kicked off with an opening address by the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Chinedum Babalola, who emphasized the importance of entrepreneurship in driving economic growth and development. She commended the students for their innovative ideas and encouraged them to continue pursuing their entrepreneurial dreams with passion and dedication.

Speaking at the exhibition, the Acting Head, Department of Business Administration, Dr. Ayodotun Ibidunni, praised the students for their exceptional entrepreneurial spirit, saying, "Today's event showcases the talent and creativity of our students, and I am impressed by the innovative ideas presented. We are
committed to nurturing and supporting our students' entrepreneurial ventures, and I am confident that they will make a significant impact in the business
world."

He stated further that the exploits from the entrepreneurship programme of the University has been attracting interest across the nation, noting that Chrisland
University students had the 3rd highest number of entries to a national entrepreneurship contest held last year. He seized the moment to announce his
appointment as the Chair of Directors of Entrepreneurship Development Centers (EDCs) of Nigerian Universities (South West Region).

Similarly, the Head of the General Studies Directorate, Professor Jegede emphasized the importance of sustainability in entrepreneurship, stating, "As we encourage entrepreneurship among our students, we must also emphasize the need for sustainable practices. I am delighted to see that many of the projects
presented today incorporate sustainable elements, demonstrating our students' understanding of the crucial role they play in shaping a better future."

An invited guest, Mr. Ibukun Obe, the Founder and Chief Executive Officer of Premier Hub Innovation Center, Mr. Ibukun Obe, commended Chrisland University for its commitment to entrepreneurship and innovation, saying, "I am impressed by the university's efforts to provide a platform for students to showcase their
entrepreneurial ventures. As an entrepreneur myself, I understand the challenges and opportunities that come with innovation, and I am excited to see
the potential impact that these student-innovators can make in their respective industries."

As part of events marking the day was a runway display by the 200 level students of the different vocations and their practical works, while 300 level students had the opportunity to present their business ideas to potential investors and mentors. Several projects stood out, including a sustainable fashion line that uses
recycled materials, a mobile app for mental health support, and an organic farming initiative aimed at promoting healthy eating.

One of the highlights of the event was the pitch competition, in which selected startups presented their business ideas to a panel of judges.

The event saw  the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Chinedum Peace Babalola, the Deputy Vice -Chancellor, Professor Olatunde Farombi, the Registrar, Mr. Samuel Omotoso; the Acting University Librarian, Mr Goodluck Ifijeh; some  Deans of Colleges and Heads of Departments taking a tour round the different vocations on display ranging from Photography and cinematography, Bag making and Hat Fascinator, Cosmetology, Wig making, Website development, Tie and dye, Catering and event management, and  Fashion design  where students had the opportunity to present their craft and showcase their works and even make sales to the management and entire University community.

The event was widely regarded as a resounding success, with many participants expressing their excitement about the potential opportunities it could bring.
