The Department is poised to instill in students a sense of enthusiasm for the sciences, and an appreciation of its application in different areas and to involve in stimulating, satisfying experience of learning and studying. To provide students a broad and balanced foundation in scientific and practical knowledge in sciences.
The Department also has the aim of developing in students the ability to apply scientific knowledge and skills to the solution of theoretical and practical problems in life, provide a range of transferable skills of value in the sciences, and provide sufficient background to enable the students do further studies in specialized areas of sciences or other disciplines involving sciences.
Admission and Graduation Requirement
The entry requirements shall be at least credit level passes in five subjects including English Language, Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry to form the core subjects with credit in one other relevant science subject at the Senior Secondary School Certificate or its equivalent. In addition, an acceptable pass in a combination of English Language, Physics, Mathematics and Chemistry in Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) is required for admission into 100-level.
Candidates with two A level passes (graded A-E) at the Advanced Level in (Biology, Chemistry, Geography, Mathematics and Physics) may undertake the three – year degree programme starting from 200-level.
DURATION OF PROGRAMME
The normal period for an honors degree shall be eight (8) semesters. It has duration of four years for students admitted with the Ordinary Level Certificate, and three years for those with Advance Level Certificates.
