RAIN CEO, Dr. Ayoola Tasks Chrisland University Students to Build Models Around Artificial Intelligence
The Chief Executive Officer/Founder of Robotics and Artificial Intelligence Nigeria (RAIN), Dr. Olusola Ayoola has tasked Chrisland University students in the Departments of Computer Science, Software Engineering and Cyber-Security, to build their models around Artificial Intelligence.
He gave this charge to the students during a field trip to the RAIN office at Ibadan, Oyo state.
While speaking on Artificial Intelligence and business model, he defined artificial intelligence as a branch of computer science that deals with writing computer programs that can solve problems creatively.
The RAIN Founder underscored that Artificial Intelligence can be used for data collection, web scrapping, web streaming, video streaming, audio processing, data logging, machine learning, knowledge representation, model development, deep learning, computer vision, natural language processing, speech support, behavior classification, obstacle avoidance, behavior predictions, event predictions, hardware control, and expert systems.
Dr. Ayoola mentioned Tesla, Toyota, Paypal, Google and others as companies who have successfully adopted and applied AI
He noted that AI is relevant or can be applied in financial services, high-tech telecommunication, energy and resources, health care services, education, travel and tourism, professional services, construction, transportation and logistics, consumer goods, automative and assembly, media and entertainment, cloud services, gaming, HR recruiting and marketing
In his words, “Artificial Intelligence can help in efficient service delivery, and achieve business objectives. AI is needed to optimize scarce resources, need to increase speed, need to implicitly detect what customers want”
While highlighting the untapped opportunities in Artificial Intelligence, Dr. Ayoola charged the students to build their model around dataset optimization among others.
Also speaking was Mr. Nurudeen Adesokan, who is in charge of Partnership and Collaboration at RAIN, noted that Chrisland University and RAIN has maintained a two-year long standing relationship, adding that the centre would be willing to collaborate with the University on training and research development to achieve its mission of attracting talented youths, to teach and inspire them to advance the realm of knowledge by cultivating their faculty of academic enquiry, creative scholarships, research discovery and the application of new knowledge to the transformation of the individual and society.
Robotics and Artificial Intelligence Nigeria RAIN which was founded in 2019 takes pride in training graduates (and highly motivated school leavers) on Robotics and Artificial Intelligence, providing support and mentorship for researchers as well as designing and building automated systems for clients.
In his vote of thanks, the Head of Department, Computer Science, Prof. Isaac Odun-Ayo, who led the team on the field trip, appreciated the RAIN team for impacting the students on practical knowledge of artificial intelligence.
Prof Odun-Ayo advised the students to utilize what they have learnt, and discover new knowledge to transform the society.
The visit to the centre includes hands-on training session to lecture the students on how to fly drones, demonstrations of some indigenously built real-life projects, demonstration of machines that make autonomous decisions among others.
Customized University gifts were presented to the Founder of RAIN by Prof. Odun-Ayo, on behalf of the Chancellor, High Chief Dr. Mrs. Winifred Awosika, the Pro-Chancellor, Distinguished Prof Ayodeji Olukoju and Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Chinedum Peace Babalola, staff and students.
