Chrisland VC, Prof. Babalola Tasks Pharmacy Graduands on Seeing Beyond the Obvious in Achieving Greatness
The Vice-Chancellor of Chrisland University, Prof. Chinedum Peace Babalola on Friday 12th May, 2023 tasked the Pharmacy graduands of University of Port Harcourt to see beyond the obvious, noting that there is need for determination and courage to achieve greatness.
She made this charge while speaking at the 11th Induction/Oath-Taking ceremony of newly minted Pharmacy graduands of the Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences, University of Port Harcourt.
According to the Vice-Chancellor, seeing beyond the obvious means to have a vision, a perspective and an imagination that enables one to recognize opportunities where others see obstacles.
Prof Babalola who is also a Professor of Pharmaceutical Chemistry and Pharmacokinetics, highlighted job placement, lack of enabling environment, poverty, low morale, lack of sustainability in practice, lack of political will as challenges facing Pharmacy profession.
As a scholar in the Pharmaceutical field of study, Prof Babalola underscored diverse strengths of Pharmacy profession which include intelligence, quality training, making innovative contributions to healthcare, making a difference in people’s health and life, solving problems and saving lives.
While emphasizing on the need to see beyond the obvious, she noted that Pharmacy profession requires expertise and the capability to think critically, solve problems and change landscapes in the healthcare sector.
She added that the profession goes beyond the conventional role of dispensing medication, adding that a Pharmacist must cater for patients and collaborate with other healthcare teams.
In her words “As Pharmacy professionals, we are responsible for striving for excellence in all we do and thus blazing the trail."
To see beyond the obvious, Prof. Babalola enjoined the graduands to ask the right questions, identify a need, acquire skills and join communities that will enhance their profession.
