The trip aimed to broaden the students' knowledge and understanding of international relations, diplomacy, and Nigeria's foreign policy.
The students were warmly received upon arrival by an Administrative Officer of the Research Department, Mrs. Ijeoma Anele, and later treated to a comprehensive lecture on Nigeria's foreign policy and the history of NIIA by Mr. Kelechi Igwe, a Research Fellow. The lecture highlighted Nigeria's foreign policy objectives, regional integration efforts, and economic development strategies, with a focus on the Tinubu administration's directive on democracy, development, diaspora, and demography.
The students also benefited from insightful lectures on the Alliance for Sahel States (AES) and the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) by Mr. Richard Ogbemudia and Dr. Aborishade. The lectures addressed issues, challenges, and prospects facing these regional organizations, with Dr. Aborishade offering valuable advice on addressing poverty, insecurity, and economic instability in West Africa.
The trip included a questions-and-answers session, a tour of the impressive NIIA library and research facilities, and an opportunity for students to interact with researchers and scholars. The students were also extended an invitation to attend ECOWAS's 50th-anniversary celebration in 2025.
The study trip concluded with an exchange of gifts between Chrisland University and NIIA, with NIIA presenting books to the University's library. The students departed with a deeper understanding of international relations, diplomacy, and Nigeria's foreign policy, inspired to apply their knowledge in future academic and professional pursuits.
This enriching experience demonstrates Chrisland University's commitment to providing students with practical learning opportunities and fostering partnerships with esteemed institutions like NIIA.
