Chrisland University Registrar, Omotoso Charges Final Year Students To Tailor Research Work To Solve Problems
Chrisland University’s Registrar, Mr. Samuel Omotoso has charged Chrisland’s 400 level students to tailor their research work towards solving problem, adding that a researcher’s poise to researching starts from identifying a problem.
He said this during the final day of the 3-day research writing workshop organized by the University for final year students at the University Auditorium.
According to him, a research, while writing the statement of problem must identify what the problem is, why the problem is a problem, what authority supports the problem, why the problem must be solved, noting that through these steps, research questions would be created.
Mr. Omotoso noted that before writing an introduction, a researcher must do a quality literature review to gain an understanding of the existing researches relevant to a particular topic.
“You can’t write a quality introduction without doing quality literature review. In research, you are expected to display mastery of the problem which will be converted to research questions you’re your statement of the problem must capture existing issue and how you plan to resolve it.”.
While analyzing the general research model, he advised the students to choose topics that are researchable with focus on solving society issues and filling existing gap in their various fields of study.
Other facilitators at the 3-day workshop include the Dean of College of Arts, Management and Social Sciences, Prof. Temidayo Akinbobola who emphasized on the significance project on students’ overall CGPA, Ag. Director of Chrisland Statistical Centre, Dr. Solomon Okunade who enlightened the students on constructing a purposeful questionnaire to achieve predetermined objectives, Dr. Gabriel Okonkwo, Dr. Ayodele Osisanwo who imparted the students on the nitty-gritty of research proposal writing, and Mr. David Ajayi facilitated the hands-on training on data analysis using Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS).
The 3-day workshop on proposal writing and data analysis is a yearly workshop organized by the University to equip final year students of the Institution with the requisite knowledge in proposal writing, how to construct a purposeful questionnaire to achieve predetermined objectives, how to handle the primary and secondary data and how to use Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS) for data analysis.
This year’s workshop kick started on Wednesday, 11th and ended on Friday, 13th May, 2022.
