Chrisland University Hosts Computer Students Nationwide As VC Calls For New Technology-Based Innovations To Solve Nigeria's Problems
Chrisland University, Abeokuta is the host of a large assemblage of computer science students nationwide who converged to brainstorm on how to evolve game-changing innovations capable of solving the myriads of problems confronting Nigeria.
Under the aegis of the Nigeria Association of Computing Students (NACOS), a body established 29 years ago, the students are at the forefront of fostering the drive for local content, computing and Information Technology enhancement in the country.
The venue of the three-day national conference themed, Disruptive Innovation For Technology Advancement, was the University's Auditorium.
In a keynote speech at the conference, the Vice-Chancellor, Prof Chinedum Peace Babalola, FAS, tasked the students to look for technological-based solutions capable of solving the country's many problems in order to build a smart, secured and sustainable society.
Prof Babalola, who was represented by the Dean, College of Arts, Management and Social Sciences (CAMASS), Prof Temidayo Akinbobola, challenged them to venture into technovation that will enable them resolve the poverty issues in the country.
The Vice-Chancellor stated: "Technology innovation is not limited to Computer Science students alone. Students from other fields are venturing into Technovation.
"So I implore you all to use this opportunity to look out for various ways to achieve this. Always bring out what the problem is and how the problem can be solved using technology. Let us look for technological-based solutions to solve problems around us.
"I want you all to grab this opportunity you have to challenge yourselves and bring up innovative ideas that can solve problems including poverty"
She expressed delight and satisfaction with the quality of Computer Sciences students of Chrisland University especially many of them who are daily developing technologies and applications to ease tension in the clinic, keep medical records, as well as those Applications reminding patients about when to take their drugs.
On behalf of the Chancellor and Founder, Chrisland University, High Chief Dr. Mrs. Winifred Awosika, OON, the Pro-Chancellor, Governing Council members, staff and students she wished them a successful and productive conference.
National President of NACOS, Comrade Olamilekan Abolade disclosed that the primary goal of the Association is to empower a new crop of innovative and creative young men and women who will add technological value to every sector of the economy and solve real life problems.
Comrade Abolade said the Association is determined more than ever to step up efforts at rewiring the ecosystem through different community and group-based drive geared towards building a generation of new technopreneurs, entrepreneurs, software developers and an army of skilled and employable young people matching industry needs in priority sectors.
Also in attendance at the conference were the National President of the Nigeria Computer Society, Prof Adesina Sodiya, the Dean, Faculty of Computational Sciences and Informatics at the Academic City University College, Accra, Ghana, Prof Olumide Longe and the Registrar of Chrisland University, Mr Samuel Omotoso.
