About Prof. Olufemi Onabajo

Professor Olufemi Onabajo had his primary education at Isonyin-Ijebu and his secondary education at Molusi College Ijebu-Igbo and African Church Grammar School Ibadan. He attended University of Ife, now Obafemi Awolowo University for his first degree between 1973 and 1977 and the University of Lagos for his MSc Mass Communication degree between 1980 and 1981 and bagged his Doctor of Philosophy degree in Mass Media and Education in 1995 also from the University of Lagos. He worked as Editor News and Current Affairs in Ogun State Broadcasting Corporation between 1979 and 1980, Nigerian Television Authority between 1981 and 1991 and rose to the position of Controller News and Current Affairs Division. He joined Eleganza Industries Lagos as Director Public Relations in 1991 with oversight function for the Personnel Division of the company. In 1992, he joined Promoserve Advertising Limited as its Group Head, Corporate Affairs and Business Development. When Africa Independent Television AIT came into existence in 1996, he was one of the pioneer staff and anchored the first live discussion on the station. 


He was producer of KAKAAKI- the African voice and Encounter and both programmes were adjudged the best programmes on air at the time. He left the glamour of television as Senior Manager, News and Current Affairs for the classroom when he became a Lecturer 1 with the Department of Mass Communication at the University of Lagos in 1998. He became Senior Lecturer in 2004 and was on Sabbatical leave at Redeemers’ University as Head of Department of Mass Communication.

He joined Lead City University, Ibadan as Professor of Mass Communication and Media Technology in 2009. In 2011, he was appointed Deputy Vice Chancellor and in the same year delivered the first inaugural lecture in the institution, titled ‘Deploying the Potentials of Broadcasting for Mass Education: Challenges and Prospects’.

Professor Olufemi Onabajo became the Vice Chancellor of Lead City University, Ibadan between 2012 and 2017 and at the end of his tenure joined Achievers University Owo.

In October 2017, Professor Onabajo joined Caleb University, Lagos as Professor of Mass Communication and Director of International Linkages and Marketing. He was appointed Dean, College of Arts, Social and Management Sciences in October 2018, and Director Student Support Services in October 2019.

Professor Onabajo has about 92 Scholarly contributions to his credit of which there are 22 books in the areas of Broadcasting, Public Relations, Advertising, Communication Research, Media Law and Ethics among others. He has attended local and international conferences and he is an external examiner at the undergraduate and postgraduate levels of many universities.

He is a member of the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations and Advertising Practitioners Council of Nigeria. Also, he is a Fellow of Nigerian Institute of Strategic Communication and Marketing and Association of Communication Scholars and Professionals in Nigeria.

He is a priest and Venerable of the Anglican Communion and he is married with children.

He joined Chrisland University, Abeokuta in March 2021 as Professor of Mass Communication. He is at present the Head of Mass Communication Department and the Chairman Admission and Marketing Committee of the University. He is married with children.
